Price : CHF 55. - per person as group tour, maximum 8 participants. 1/2 price up to 15 years old.

The price includes supervision, provision of a printed paper map, and loan of a compass, subject to availability. The price does not include transportation to the meeting point, parking fees if applicable, and soup*/refreshments at the hut. (*soup at the hut may not cater for all dietary requirements)

Content :

In a playful and 100% hands-on manner, you will learn how to read a topographic map, understand its various symbols and colors, and estimate distances.

You will also discover orienteering techniques using a compass and learn how to use an altimeter to accurately determine your position.

Programme :

Meeting point 9:00 AM at La Givrine. After a brief theoretical introduction, we set off with map and compass in hand to connect points marked on the map. Each point provides an opportunity for specific learning. Around midday, we take a picnic break in a cozy mountain hut (with the option to purchase hot soup* and refreshments). In the afternoon, we continue our journey with a focus on compass navigation. We will back at the parking area by 5:00 PM.

Mandatory gear : "High-rise" hiking boots, back-pack, 1 lunch snack, water (min. 1L), 1 compass (possible loan subject to availability)

If snowy conditions : snowshoes + hiking poles with large baskets

Optional : altimeter, map case, map Swisstopo 1241

Fitness level : easy, ability to walk 8km and+ 300m over the day.

Technical level : easy, some off-track parts without any difficulty
